Regular waxing
Wax your strings every 2-3 weeks or after prolonged use. This helps prevent fraying and protects the fibers from moisture and dirt. Use high-quality bowstring wax and apply a thin, even layer. Gently rub it into the string with your fingers until smooth.
Inspect for wear
Check your strings and cables frequently for any signs of fraying or separation, especially at contact points like the cam and cable slides. Catching damage early will help you avoid major issues down the road.
Avoid excessive heat
Store your bow in a cool, dry place. Exposure to high heat (like leaving it in a car or direct sunlight) can weaken the string fibers and cause premature wear.
Handle peep twists with care
If your peep sight twists out of alignment, don't over-rotate the string trying to fix it. Instead, draw the bow a few times to see if the peep naturally aligns. If needed, lightly twist the string in the appropriate direction before drawing again. For persistent issues, consult with a bow technician.
Keep it clean
After each session, wipe down your strings to remove dirt, debris, or moisture. This helps preserve the wax coating and keeps your strings in top condition.
Don't overtighten
Avoid cranking down too hard on your bow’s cams or string stops, as over-tightening can put unnecessary stress on the strings, leading to premature wear.
Professional servicing
Have your bow strings inspected by a professional yearly, even if no visible damage is present. A technician can spot underlying issues and help you make adjustments before problems arise.
